I believe healthcare is a right, not a privilege. I strongly support a single-payer, preventative healthcare system, that provides every single American access to quality health care, no matter their income bracket, pre-existing conditions or where they live. We can do this by first getting rid of the middle man – the insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies – who currently receive about 20-25% of profits from our health care system. We can take those funds and use them to provide better, more personalized care. We also need to move toward preventative healthcare model where patients can get treatment earlier on that will prevent more serious and more expensive procedures down the line.
I believe we can raise the necessary money to pay for a single-payer system in the United States through taxing financial transactions; a 1% transaction fee of sales of all stocks and 0.5% fee on the sale of all bonds.
